What is particularly useful is the feature that Brian gives (both in CR and DN) whereby you can listen to the “Noise” that is being removed and thus you can determine if you are attemting to remove too much music signal. ClickRepair is not a noise filter it searches for, and repairs, localized damage. This kind of intermittent noise is typically the result of damage due to scratches, dust specks, etc. But it did do the job well once you got the settings right. ClickRepair is an application for cleaning clicks and crackle from audio files produced by digitizing vinyl (LP) and shellac (78) records. I needed different settings for each track on the LP - hard work. I don’t have any 78s, but I did have one doulcle LP which was lod blues recordings obviosly taken from 78s and before tha advent of digital sound processing and editing. And unlike CR where I can use my “standard” settings - I found with De-Noise that I had to recalibrate for every recording. I still run the JAR file in Mac OS 12.x and it still works its magic. It was still straightforward to use - but managing the comntrols to get the desired effect takes a bit more work. ClickRepair was a game changer when I bought my copy some years ago. RX5 is too aggressive, even with the lowest setting I think its making way way way too many fixes to things which are not audible. First result was that I still feel that the current version of ClickRepair (3.9.5) is better then the current version of RX (RX5). As I have commented before Brian’s De-Noiser is considerably harder to use than his ClickRepair whch is very straighforward to use. Insert the blade under one end of the chip and. Anyhow, prompted by this thread, I did a some listening tests over the past few days.
